Worry beads are used by people to relieve stress. I have also heard that they are also known as a "fidget toy".

Some cultures and religious practices formalize the use of these simple elements. I suppose they have a use in helping to focus, to keep the mind busy away from the trials of the day; to engage in a mindless activity that softens fear or sadness.
