Old growth cedars in British Columbia
The sight and smell of old growth rot is celebrated here.
The image of a bearded gentleman is added for scale, and in a comparative
way to align the notion of aging amongst man and tree.
Both carve out environments to suit their likings, and build
homesteads for numerous other creatures along the way.
While we log and mill them in support of civilization, we should
take only what is needed. Perhaps we could leave every second tree, allowing the forests a chance to rebuild their own.
When such an old guy finally falls in the forest, we may not hear them. We will, however, know it is the way of nature.
